National attention: Andover's Johnson to ring in Pats home opener
Martin Johnson, 2004 Andover High School graduate and lead singer for the pop/rock group Boys Like Girls, will sing the national anthem at the Patriots' season-opening Monday Night Football game.
The Andover native will sing before the game between the Patriots and the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium on Sept. 14, the first game for quarterback Tom Brady since a knee injury ended his season during the opening quarter last year.
Andover's Johnson found himself launched into stardom after his band was signed by the Columbia Records label three years ago. Boys Like Girls has toured the U.S., Japan and the United Kingdom, and had two top 40 hits on its self-titled debut album.
The band's next album, "Love Drunk," released Sept. 8, and the title track quickly climbed the top 20 on pop radio's top 40 chart and No. 15 on the iTunes singles chart, according to a press release.
Johnson and Boys Like Girls - whose members all hail from the Boston area - will play a free show at Patriot Place Plaza in Foxborough on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. to promote their new album and "thank their hometown fans," said the press release. For details, see www.Patriot-Place.com
