Cut for a cause

Salon raises $1,680 for Boston Children's Hospital

Downtown manicurist Michelle LeBlanc is running the Boston Marathon with the hopes of raising several thousand dollars for Boston Children’s Hospital.

With the help of her colleagues at the Philip Ciampa Salon at 22 Park St., she is well on her way to her goal.

On Sunday, the salon held a cut-a-thon that netted $1,680 for the cause. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 100 percent of the proceeds from clients having their hair done at Philip Ciampa went to Boston Children’s, according to salon manager Pamela Durkin.

In addition to styling hair, the staffers also sold raffle tickets, with funds raised going to the children’s hospital as well.

Ordinarily, the salon is closed on Sundays, but seven stylists and four desk employees gave up a day off to make the fundraiser a success, Durkin said.

“My staff is wonderful,” she added.
