Out & About: Gala concert supports youth orchestras

Two Andover residents are lending a hand with this weekend’s second annual Warm Music for a Winter’s Night gala benefit to support Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras.

The benefit, featuring the music of Kendrick Oliver and the New Life Jazz Orchestra, takes place Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m. at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport.

Proceeds will benefit NMYO’s special programs for young musicians, community outreach efforts and scholarship fund.

Sabina Dowell and Sarahda Ramesh serve on the planning committee for the event. Their daughters, Avery Wendell and Yazhini Ramesh, are among more than 20 young musicians from Andover who perform with NMYO ensembles.

NMYO’s eight ensembles include student musicians from 40 communities across northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Gerald Dolan serves as music director.

Concert-only general admission tickets are priced at $50 and $25. Patron tickets, at $75, include premium seating and acknowledgment in the concert program, while benefactors, at $150, enjoy premier seating, a pre-concert reception with hors d’oeuvres and program book acknowledgment.

For tickets or more information, contact Rockport Music at or 978-546-7391.
