Local Authors Book Sale, and signing, Haverhill Public Library, Haverhill, Johnson Auditorium, 4 to 8:30 p.m. Andover residents Monique and Alexa Peters will be at this book signing with copies of the children's book "Cooper & Me."

FRIDAY, AUG. 27

Adaptive horseback riding, for individuals with disabilities, hosted by The Department of Conservation and Recreation, Bradley Palmer State Park, Topsfield, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Assistive equipment and teamwork will help people of all abilities ride the gentle horses while enjoying trails at a leisurely pace; call ahead for waivers requiring a doctor's signature: 617-626-1294.

SATURDAY, AUG. 28

Free Canoe Program, 11 a.m., Harold Parker State Forest, meet at Forest Headquarters parking lot, 305 Middleton Road, North Andover, sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, with the park's interpreter, Bob Anderson. Basics of canoe handling and water safety discussed with a guided paddle around one of Harold Parker's ponds. Canoes provided, bring sunscreen, insect repellent, water, a camera and your own life vest if you have one, otherwise one will be provided. Limited to 16 adults over 18.
