'Paradox' show at Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell

April Show at Loading Dock Gallery at the Western Avenue Studios in Lowell

The Andover Townsman

---- — This April, the Loading Dock Gallery is featuring “Forms in Paradox,” a collection of drawing, painting, and mixed media artwork by Nikki Giraffo that focuses on perceived contradictions in women’s lives.

The exhibit is at the Loading Dock Gallery, Western Avenue Studios,122 Western Ave. in Lowell.

“Explore the metaphors that Giraffo has chosen to represent the contradictions that occur in women’s lives as she draws you into her own nostalgic and dramatic world using images of struggle, search or discovery. Many of her stories unfold in an abandoned amusement park and Giraffo’s alter ego is often featured as the heroine of the story,” according to a release form the gallery. “The carousel horse is a recurring character in Giraffo’s paintings and is a paradox similar to those that exist in the lives of women.”

Giraffo says, “The carousel horse is an object used for amusement...very ornate and beautiful, however no one pays mind to the pole piercing its torso, the anger in its face, or the fact that it is stuck in this cyclical contraption.”

People can meet the artist at the opening reception on April 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.

According to the release, “Giraffo is intentional in creating metaphors in her artwork, but ultimately she wants you to discover what the mystery in her artwork means to you.”

Forms in Paradox will run at the Loading Dock Gallery from April 3 to 28. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit, email or call 978-656-1687.
