Summer camp rivalry stars in show

With a summer-camp rivalry at its center, a middle school show this weekend seems perfect for its age group.

Doherty Middle School is set to perform Disney’s Camp Rock. It’s a classic story of rivalry and power from the show’s opening scene.

“This high-energy musical will be directed and performed by a large ensemble cast - over 60 students across all three grades,” said Doherty Middle’s Samantha LaDuc. “We are looking very forward to the show.”

There will be singing and dancing as part of the Doherty Middle School Drama Club’s spring show. Camp Rock will be performed by the Doherty Middle students on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6, 7 p.m.; and on Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m.

In the musical, Mitchie and her friends arrive at Camp Rock, ready to spend another summer jamming out and having the time of their lives. But the new, flashy Camp Star across the lake now threatens Camp Rock’s very existence. To keep the doors open, Mitchie steps up, rallies her fellow Camp Rockers, and gets them into top shape for the ultimate showdown.

Tickets for the Doherty Middle production in Memorial Auditorium, which is used as the school’s auditorium, cost $10 and are available at the door or at Learning Express.
