:Author talk: Memorial Hall Library will host a speaking engagement featuring Laura Harrington, author of Alice Bliss on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. Harrington will do a book signing after her talk.

:Genealogy Lock-In: Register for an evening of after-hours genealogy research with exclusive access to databases, computers, microfilm, and the Andover Room on Friday, April 5 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. A light dinner will be served. $10 fee. Space is limited. Register at or call 978-623-8401 Ext. 31.

:Ruth Harcovitz: “A Celebration of Rodgers and Hammerstein” on Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. will feature Boston’s “Julie Andrews” singing selections from Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific, and The King and I. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Andover Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

:Getting Started in Genealogy: On Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m., this talk by noted genealogist, Rhonda McClure, will help those who are new to genealogy, as well as those who have some experience but would like to make sure they haven’t missed anything, according to the library. :Greenscaping: On Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m., learn how to reduce outdoor water use with effective yard care and landscaping practices, rain gardens, native plant gardens with drought-tolerate plants, and alternatives to pesticides and herbicides. The event is sponsored by Andover Department of Public Works and Greenscapes North Shore.


The Friends of Memorial Hall Library Spring Book Sale: The sale will be April 26 to 28, with a preview night April 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. that will have a $20 admission per person (free for Friends members). The regular sale hours are Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 28 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

:Career Networking Group: From 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4 the subject is “Age Proof Your Job Search” and on Thursday, April 18: “Innovative Ways to Get a Job.”

:MHL’s Monday Movie Night: On Monday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m. - Attend the movie, and enter to win the DVD after watching it.

:Creative Café: Monthly Craft Night meets at 7 p.m. Join a group of fellow crafters for a creative and fun evening. Meet other crafters, and work on your own projects! Open to adults who knit, crochet, scrapbook, and create other portable crafts. The Creative Café meets on the first open Monday of each month.

:Writers’ Group: Meets on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Join the Memorial Hall Library writers’ group for writers of adult fiction, nonfiction, and memoirs. This group provides constructive advice and feedback on each other’s works in progress. The group meets on the second Thursday of the month.
