Lending support through laughter
A comedy night to benefit the educational fund for the children of an Andover teacher who battled scleroderma and became a source for laughter, knowledge and guidance for the local support group she attended will be held Friday, Nov. 1, at the Claddagh, 339 Canal St., Lawrence.
Karin Sears, a North Andover native who later lived in Methuen, taught at West Elementary School. She was known for making her scleroderma support group laugh through illness.
Now in return, her friends from the support group want to support Sears’ daughters and they felt there was no better way to do that than with a comedy night in her honor doing what she did best — making everyone laugh.
The show will feature comedians Jim Lauletta, Dave Rattigan, Katie Grady and Steve Bjork. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8. There will also be raffles, a cash bar and food available. For tickets, contact Carla King at 978-884-4866 or Carla.King@comcast.net. For more, visit “A Night For Karin” on Facebook.
Musical benefit for Andona Society
Musician and comedian Jim Plunkett, a staple of Boston nightlife for decades, headlines the Andona Society’s fall fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at Hillview Country Club in North Reading.
Plunkett has been performing in the New England area for decades and is known for getting audiences singing some of their favorite hits.
The event will include a silent auction for such items as signed sports memorabilia, weekend stays, gift cards, gift baskets and more, plus a raffle. This year’s event will also include table sponsors and a coupon book for discounts to businesses in the Andovers and North Reading.
For more than 50 years, the volunteer, nonprofit Andona Society has been raising thousands of dollars with the support of local businesses and residents to enhance educational, athletic and cultural enrichment programs offered to young people in Andover.
