The Andover Townsman
---- — Nationally known gardening expert and teacher Kerry Ann Mendez believes it’s time for some “editing.”
Mendez says while many people dream of cultivating Better Homes and Gardens-like landscapes on their property, the reality is that job and family demands, financial limitations, aging bodies and changing landscapes stand in the way.
Mendez will offer some easy-to-follow downsizing strategies in a program next week hosted by the Andover Garden Club.
Her landscape design lecture, “Simplifying Gardens to Fit our Lifestyles,” will highlight the club’s membership meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. at South Church, 41 Central St., Andover.
Mendez will recommend no-fuss plant material and offer design tips for stunning year-round gardens that will be as close to autopilot to maintain as one can get.
The director of marketing for Faddegon’s Nursery in Latham N.Y., Mendez is dedicated to teaching the art of low-maintenance perennial gardening and landscaping. As a garden consultant, designer, writer, teacher and lecturer, she focuses on time-saving gardening techniques and workhorse plants as well as organic practices.
A self-taught gardener with more than 25 years of experience as a “passionate perrenialist,” Mendez has been featured in numerous magazines, including Horticulture and Fine Gardening, and has been a guest on HGTV as well as local television shows.
The program is open free to Andover Garden Club members; a $10 donation is requested from guests. Refreshments will be served.
