Original 'Man of Steel' inspires upcoming local art show

Sculptor, expressionist combine on 'Men of Steel'

Two artists, three Thursdays. That’s how Lowell-based sculptor Patrick Pierce is pitching his upcoming show.

Pierce and action abstract expressionist David Leblanc of Amesbury have joined forces for the colorful show, “Men of Steel.” The show is at Patrick Pierce Studios, 57 Market St., Lowell, on three consecutive Thursdays, Oct.18 and 25 and Nov. 1., from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Meet the artists at the studio on Oct. 18.

“It’s kind of a pop-up show but I’ve had my studio for 10 years,” Pierce said. “I’ve been watching David for awhile, his work is really good. I just thought combining our work and doing the show for three nights was something different.”

Pierce said his strong and sophisticated steel sculptures collide with Leblanc’s bold and playful paintings inspired by the famed Man of Steel comic book.
