Nineteen young musicians from Andover will join the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestra in presenting An Afternoon of Concerts on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Ipswich Performing Arts Center, 134 High St., in Ipswich.
The afternoon will be split into two concerts, one at 2:30 p.m. and the other at 5 p.m. The earlier concert will feature the NMYO Prelude and Overture String Ensembles, Intermezzo Orchestra Junior Flute Choir and Flute Choir. The later concert will feature the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Select Flute Choir.
The local musicians who will be participating are Timothy Wang, Vivien Qin, Samuel Zhang, Arman Koul, Alice Fan, Yazhini Ramesh, Yanchen Zhan, Sarah Vrountas, Stefanie Sartschev, Alexandra Zhang, Violin, and Louis Galligani, all on violin; Hannah Garth on oboe; Sam Krapels, Amanda Hornick and Somin Virmani, all on flute; Maxwell Fan and Chad Cao, both on cello; Seongwoon (Shawn) Moon on trombone; and Reverie Nedde on viola.
The event represents the first full-length concert of NMYO’s 2012-2013 season and the family-friendly program will feature works by Mozart, Handel, Scarlatti, Beethoven and more.
“This is one of the first concerts that many of our younger musicians are performing with NMYO,” NMYO’s Music Director Gerald Dolan said in a press release, “and this is a great concert for our musicians to show all the work and improvements made during the first semester at NMYO.”
An Afternoon of Concerts is free and open to the public. A reception provided by NMYO families will be held after each concert. Visit www.nmyo.org for more.
