The Andover Senior Center and the Andover Historical Society will host a monthly "High Tea and History" afternoon tea on Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. Based on the Society's "Andover Stories" project, this event is meant to "allow people to celebrate and share memories of Andover the way they once knew it as the Historical Society heads to its 100th anniversary in 2011."
The first topic of our "High Tea and History" will center around one of Andover's most prominent institutions through the late 1950s, "The Crystal Ballroom." As host of the first tea of the series, local resident Bernice Haggerty will focus on what it was like to dance many a night away at the original Crystal Ballroom. This timely reminiscence anticipates the inauguration of a monthly ballroom dancing event: "Crystal Ballroom at the Townhouse" which will begin on Sept. 12 in the Andover Town House, also known as Old Town Hall, 20 Main St.
"High Tea and History" will use the Historical Society's weekly stories, printed in the Andover Townsman, as springboards for discussions and reminiscences about what it felt like to live in this town's bygone ages. Everyone is invited to contribute with their own "Andover Stories," or simply enjoy listening to others.
Donations of tea cups and saucers are appreciated, as well as fancy tea fixings. ASC and AHS will provide the tea and cookies. Preregistration is suggested to hold a spot to this free event.
