Soup's On for Neighbors in Need

Local restaurants filling bowls for annual benefit

The Andover Townsman

---- — Three downtown restaurants are cooking up a batch of their favorite soups next weekend to help Neighbors In Need provide food for the hungry.

On Saturday, May 17, Yella Grill, Palmers Restaurant and Tavern, and Andolini’s are donating soup for a dinner and auction fundraiser in support of the food pantry.

The event, called Soup’s On!, features soup samplings from seven local restaurants and caterers paired with one-of-a-kind ceramic bowls made by the area’s artists. Proceeds support Neighbors in Need’s efforts each week providing food through its warehouse in Dundee Park in Andover to 600 families served by 11 food pantries in Lawrence and Methuen.

Palmers and Yella have participated in the annual fundraiser since its inception in 2008. This is the first year that Andolini’s will take part.

In addition, Bertucci’s and Stop and Shop in Andover are also supporting the event by contributing appetizers and desserts. Other soup donors include Raspberries Catering, Chefs of the Old World, Olive Garden and United Teen Equality Center’s Fresh Roots Catering.

As part of the event, area artists will be donating hundreds of handmade ceramic bowls so each guest may choose one to take home. The quest for the right bowl can get competitive and there is an incentive to arrive early.

Soup’s On starts at 6 p.m. at Relief’s In (the Lawrence Firefighters Hall) at 1 Market St. in Lawrence. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased at www.needfood.org or email neighborsinneed@verizon.net.
