The Andover Garden Club sprouts its own version of “Art in Bloom” with its presentation of “Petals & Palettes on a Sunday Afternoon” on Sunday, May 18, from noon to 5 p.m. at Essex Art Center, 56 Island St., lower level, Lawrence.
Two score — or about 40 — of the area’s top artists will showcase more than 70 pieces, including sculpture, watercolor, oil painting, drawing, photography, mixed media and fiber arts.
A selection of those pieces will be interpreted in fresh floral arrangements à la the Museum of Fine Arts Boston’s “Art in Bloom.” Much of the artwork will be offered for sale, with a percentage of the proceeds going to support the work of the Andover Garden Club.
The event will also include live jazz music, plus appetizers and wine, beer and other beverages.
Founded in 1927, the Andover Garden Club is a nonprofit, charitable organization that encourages the study and practice of horticulture and landscape and floral design; aids in the beautification of the town of Andover, and helps protect and conserve natural resources.
A member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and National Garden Clubs, Inc., the local club provides both financial and hands-on support to a variety of municipal, educational and environmental organizations throughout the region.
Tickets are $40 and available from Andover Garden Club president Anne Feeney at 978-475-7119 or email@example.com and online at www.andovergardenclub.org/events/. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
