The Andover Townsman
---- — The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestra will present “An Afternoon of Concerts” on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Ipswich Performing Arts Center in Ipswich. The afternoon will be split into two concerts, one at 2:30 and the other at 5. The earlier concert will feature the NMYO Prelude and Overture String Ensembles, Intermezzo Orchestra, Junior Flute Choir, and Flute Choir. The later concert will feature the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Select Flute Choir.
This event will be the first full-length concert of NMYO’s 2012-2013 season.
Music Director Gerald Dolan reports that music by Holst, Kalinnikov, Mozart, and many other fine composers will be performed at this event. Funding for this event is provided in part by Institution for Savings.
“An Afternoon of Concerts” is free and open to the public. All NMYO concerts are family-friendly, and are a great way to expose children to orchestral music in a comfortable setting while supporting the musical training of the area’s finest young musicians. A reception provided by NMYO families will be held between the two concerts.
The mission of the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras (NMYO) is to provide young musicians with exceptional ensemble training and opportunities for growth through musical performance and community service.
