Drawing a line for Zentangle art

Meditative art form on display at library

The Andover Townsman

---- — Community services librarian Emily Classon takes viewers into the world of Zentangle art with an exhibit of her creations this month in the Level 2 display case at Memorial Hall Library, 2 North Main St.

Zentangle art is a meditative method of creativity that results in abstract, typically structured drawings built around repetitive patterns. And it’s easy to do, Classon says, adding anyone who can write their name can create Zentangle art from a few simple pen strokes.

Classon, who became a certified Zentangle teacher in August 2012, says she finds the art form a great way to reduce stress, center herself when her mind is swirling with thoughts, and inspire her creativity. She says she achieves the same clarity and calmness creating her Zentangle pieces as is associated with practicing yoga or meditation.

The library display is up through Sept. 30. To learn more about Classon and her artistic journey as well as her upcoming Zentangle workshops, visit www.momzenartist.blogspot.com.
