The Andover Townsman
---- — Local kids have had plenty to cheer about this summer as they were coached in the art of pom-poms, pyramids and performance.
Girls and boys ages 3 to 13 have spent the summer being introduced to the fundamental skills of cheerleading through weeklong sessions offered by the Andover Department of Community Services.
The youngsters got some expert instruction, too, from none other than Andover native Ashley Baldwin, who has cheered for the New England Patriots, and her sister, Kayla Baldwin, both experienced cheerleaders in their own right. The Baldwin sisters, together with their cousin, Alexa Baldwin, led the staff in teaching the cheerleaders-in-training some of the most current routines in the sport.
The program winds down this week at West Elementary School. But not before the kids get in a few more shakes of their pom-poms.
