Give your homes old traditions a new look

'Home for HolidayAndover Garden Club meeting

People hoping for a new look to brighten their homes during the holidays may want to consider stopping into the December meeting of the Andover Garden Club.

A floral-design program called “Home for the Holidays: New Look for Old Traditions” by Marisa McCoy will be offered at the club’s meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m., at South Church, 41 Central St. in Andover.

There is no charge for club members and a $10 donation is requested from guests. There will be refreshments.

Marisa McCoy is an award-winning floral and landscape designer and nationally accredited flower show judge, according to the organization.

“ This floral-design demonstration will focus on updating traditional floral decorating at home, including colors for tables, mantels, doorways, stairs, and gift packages. Currently first vice president of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Inc., McCoy is also a floral-design instructor, garden-club speaker, active member of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston Senior Associates, and a custom wedding and special-occasion floral designer,” according to a release from club member Frances Wheeler.

Founded in 1927, the Andover Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that says it “encourages the study and practice of horticulture, landscape design, and floral design; aids in the beautification of the town of Andover; and helps protect and conserve natural resources. The club provides both financial and hands-on support to a variety of municipal, educational, and environmental organizations throughout the region.”

Information about joining the Andover Garden Club is available from AGC membership chairwomen Yvonne Glendon (978-247-8960, yglendon@comcast.net) and Dana MacKay (978-475-4451, dmmm51@yahoo.com).
