Town program allows kids to try piano for free, then start lessons
Andover Department of Community Services in cooperation with Jacob Zeltser has expanded the "Keys for Kids" music education program from 3 to 5 days a week.
Keys for Kids is a year-round music program for children ages 4 to 12, with no previous experience needed. Courses are taught in small groups organized by age.
Students receive a total music experience in a classroom equipped with an electronic keyboard for each child. Students learn keyboard skills, how to read notes, rhythm, ear training solfeggio singing, chord harmonization, composition, music reading and improvisation.
The advantage that a piano keyboard offers in music training is that all three elements of music melody, harmony and rhythm come together for creative self-expression. Parent participation, in the classroom and at home, supports this program.
"This is a wonderful way for parents and children to have fun together, and to have fun with other families, while they are learning something new and exciting," says Zeltser.
Zeltser is a conservatory-educated musician from Russia and certified Keys for Kids instructor. He brings a wealth of teaching and performance expertise to his students. He has been offering both group and private instruction in piano for 29 years.
All classes will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the Unitarian Church, 6 Locke St., Andover. New classes begin the week of Jan. 25, 2010. Free sample lessons will be held Saturdays, Jan. 16, 23 and 30.
