CHRISTMAS IN SALEM HOUSE TOUR, sponsored by Historic Salem Inc., will showcase 11 homes and properties ranging from a 17th-century house associated with the Salem Witch Trials to homes built at the end of the 19th century. A controlled white-tailed deer hunt, at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Newburyport. This annual hunt helps maintain the deer population at a level commensurate with the available habitat while providing recreational opportunities for the hunting public. The hunt is by Refuge permit only with a maximum of 35 hunters, including up to four paraplegic hunters and 20 standbys, which were selected by public lottery on Oct. 9. Successful applicants must attend a one-hour Refuge Hunter Safety and Orientation program on Nov. 22 at 9 a.m. or Nov. 24 at 6:00 p.m. For further information, contact Refuge Headquarters located at 6 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport, 978-465-5753.
