Bay Circuit Trail Hike series kicks off, 1 to 4 p.m., rain or shine, hikers meet at the Ward Reservation parking lot on Prospect Street, off Route 125. Shuttles will take hikers to the beginning of the hike on Salem Street, near the lunch pavilion in Harold Parker State Forest, and then hikers will hike back to their cars at the Ward Reservation. Andover Trails Committee leads this four-part hike series that, over the course of four months, will cover Andover's entire 18-mile stretch of the Bay Circuit Trail. Art show with a landscape flavor opens, George Oommen: A Retrospective, Oommen's concept of viewing the outside from the inside is perhaps a reference to his formal education as an architect. The intentional drips in the paintings refer to the weather conditions from his childhood memories, an area of the planet often enveloped with rainfall. Bishop (Baltasar Jaime) Martinez Companon Exlporations, between 1782-1785 he explored the coastal plains, high sierras and rain forests of Northern Peru. His findings were recorded (in nine volumes) for Charles IV of Spain. From these volumes, Ensemble Trinitas brings to life the bishop's journey in a lively multi-media presentation. The 18th-century Peruvian music (transcribed and arranged by Tom Zajac) will take you on a journey that begins on Christmas Eve and includes several side trips featuring Afro/Mulatto and Mestizo fusion music, songs of the Canichanas Indians, music for Charles IV's coronation, and celebrations in the furthest-flung corners of the Spanish lands, the Bolivian rainforest. Director Tom Zajac leads this ensemble.

circus smirkus, The Sons of Italy Lodge #902 is presenting two days of family entertainment when Circus Smirkus comes to Lawrence on July 24 and 25. This circus is Vermont's award winning international youth circus and this year the 2009 Big Top presents a "Circus Ever After: A Big Top Fairytale." Two shows will be performed at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 24; and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 25. Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for children (free for ages 2 and younger) and are available at the gate starting one hour before show time or by phone. It's Time for Haverhill Rocks 2009 and the Battle of the Bands, Winnekenni Castle and the Haverhill Rocks Committee are once again teaming up with the City of Haverhill and Haverhill Community Television to present Haverhill Rocks 2009. The event will be held Aug. 22 at Winnekenni Castle. The top eight bands will go on to perform live on the outdoor stage at Winnekenni Castle and compete to win a $1,000 check courtesy of an anonymous supporter of the arts in Haverhill and the production of a music video donated by ABE Mulitmedia LLC. Climb on board the Mickey Mouse Bus, to join Mickey and friends on their latest musical adventure in a Disney Live! stage show.
