A tempting return for Sweet Indulgence

The Andover Townsman

---- — Andover firsts are plentiful at the annual Evening of Sweet Indulgence on Saturday, Feb. 1.

For the first time, the event is being held in Andover, in the Grand Ballroom at the Wyndham Hotel on Old River Road.

The Andover Inn is making its first appearance among the participating restaurants.

Also new this year, the event is expanding its culinary reach by adding appetizers to the traditionally dessert-only menu.

“After years of having a conflict with the dates, we are excited to be having the Andover Inn join us this year and we are excited to be moving the event to Andover for the first time,” organizer Jon Brody said.

This is the fourth year for the event, which Brody said continues to thrill because it appeals to everyone’s sweet tooth. Proceeds support Congregation Beth Israel on South Main Street in Andover.

Billy Costa of KISS 108-FM serves as host as vendors from six area communities serve up their specialty confections while vying for the title of “Best Dessert in the Merrimack Valley.”

“Billy Costa is a known quantity and has had a lot of success running this type of event and I thought it would be great to bring him here to showcase the great restaurants, bakeries and caterers we have in the Merrimack Valley,” Brody said.

In addition to The Andover Inn, also representing Andover will be Wyndham Hotel’s own On the Bone restaurant, Raagini Indian Restaurant and Sweet Mimi’s. Representing North Andover will be Frederick’s Pastries, Sandrino’s Best of Thymes Catering and Burton’s Grill, a past “Best Dessert” winner that has participated in the event for the past few years.

In addition to desserts, guests will also have a chance this year to nibble on appetizers and vote for a favorite in that category, too.

“Past years have focused only on dessert, but this year, by fan request, we are adding appetizers to the tastings,” she said. “People will be able to vote for the best appetizer and then vote their top three desserts to the Blue Ribbon table where the guest judges will select the winners.”

The event will also include music from the band My Frosty Mug and silent and live auctions with jewelry, sports memorabilia, access to a taping of KISS 108’s “Top 30 with Billy Costa” and more up for grabs. A cash bar will be available as well.

The fun gets started at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Reserved seats are $40 in advance only. Tables of 10 may be reserved for $350.
