Phillips Academy presents symphony, chamber orchestras

The Symphony and Chamber Orchestras of Phillips Academy will present a concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 in the Cochran Chapel, on Chapel Avenue, just off Main Street on the edge of the Phillips Academy campus. This concert is free and open to the public.

The program will include Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Op. 48, directed by Derek Jacoby; Newbold’s Iditarod and Lipton’s Tudo Bem under the direction of Elizabeth Aureden; Suk’s Meditation on an Old Bohemian Chorale for String Orchestra, Op. 35; and Brahms’ Variation on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56a under the direction of James Orent.

Also featured on the program is Phillips Academy senior Lauren Kim, performing the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major, Op. 102 and fellow senior James Garth, performing Williams’ Five Sacred Trees, Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra under the direction of James Orent.
