The Andover Townsman
---- — Ten of the area’s most promising vocalists will face off next month for the title of Merrimack Valley Idol.
The finalists were selected at auditions last week at the Collins Center at Andover High School, winning the judges’ praise and a chance to advance to the finals, set for Saturday, Nov. 9.
They are: Emma Harris of Andover, Jillian Knopping of North Andover, Nurilys Cintron and Anna McCabe of Lawrence, Jamie Dyan Taker of Haverhill, Dakota Driscoll of Dunstable, Josef Nocera of Newburyport and Heather Alfano and Megan Lally of Salem, N.H.
They will be competing for a $500 cash prize and the chance to follow on the path of 2012 winner Ilia Paulino of Lawrence.
The audition judges were theater producer and director Mike Fay of Hampton Beach, N.H.; Rebecca Farnham of Lowell, opera director for the Andover-based Treble Chorus of New England; and Elizabeth Sarantos of Andover who performs with the New England Classical Singers of Andover.
The annual competition, open to singers ages 14 and up from the Merrimack Valley, is presented by Quota International of Andover.
The finals will be held at the Wyndham Andover Hotel and will include dinner with cash bar, silent and live auctions and a raffle.
Proceeds from the event will assist the 20-year-old nonprofit organization in its efforts to provide financial support to local women and children in need, including victims of domestic abuse, as well as the deaf and hard of hearing. In each of the past four years, Quota has donated between $20,000 and $30,000 to local organizations supporting its causes.
