Former state Rep. Barry Finegold is Andover's new state senator, and Andover now has two new state representatives.
Andover Republicans Paul Adams and Jim Lyons will move into the House, with Lyons defeating the former Democratic vice chairwoman of the House Ways & Means Committee, Barbara L'Italien. L'Italien, the incumbent, bested Lyons in their hometown of Andover, but Lyons captured the other major communities in their gerrymandered district to capture the 18th Essex.
Adams will represent most of Andover after defeating fellow resident Patrica Commane, the Democratic candidate for the 17th Essex state representative seat.
Finegold squeaked out wins in Andover and Tewksbury and carried a larger margin of victory in Lawrence to defeat Andover residents Jamison Tomasek and Jodi Oberto.
