In shape students: Doherty students show physical fitness in national test
A number of Andover middle-schoolers should have no trouble tracking down frisbees this summer. More than 10 percent of Doherty Middle School students earned the highest possible status in the Presidential Fitness Testing for 2007-08, according to physical education teachers Phil Capodilupo and Katie Rurak.
They reported recently that 68 students out of almost 600 earned Presidential status. Students were tested in the one-mile run/walk, the shuttle run, the sit and reach, pull-ups and sit-ups. The tests measure cardiovascular fitness, speed and agility, flexibility, upper body strength and endurance, and abdominal strength and endurance.
Capodilupo and Rurak said they salute all the students' efforts and ask them to make daily physical fitness a total family affair. Presidential Award Winners earned a certificate, a badge, a water bottle and a key chain inscribed with "Andover Physical Education Rocks."
Grade eight winners were: Dorothy Agoulnik, Tim Arena, Kaity Beaumont, Alexandra Camilo, Lauren Cardillo, Lucas Christopherson, James Costello, Matt Cummings, Cole Dillman, Blake Finlayson, Morgan Gundrum, Molly Lynch, Jimmy Minihan, Rachel Moore, Patrick O'Sullivan, Nick Price, Elizabeth Pugliese, Anna Shrestinian, Carina Sylvester, Kaleigh Wilson and Carolina Zappala.
Grade seven winners were: Nicole Annino, Rachel Annino, Nadja Arifovic, Sarah Appleton, Ross Bendetson, Emma Bentley, James Burke, Emma Cammann, Scottie Campbell, Jen Colombo, Piper Curtis, Maggie D'Ionnocenzo, Lucy Frey, Phillip Igoe, Lizzy Kaufman, Emma Lamoreaux, Eliza Lewis, India Mazzarelli, Michael Maldari, Taylor Masse, Catie Muldoon, Ana Rinaldi, Samantha Vano, Kristen Wilson and Mark Zavrl.
Grade six winners were: Samantha Camilo, Sophie Draper, Julia Ganley, Jessie Greaves, Louisa Gross, Sam Kelly, Kyle Lawrence, Julia Leblanc, Meagan Levantal, Angie Lionetta, Jessie Livingston, Emily Masterson, George Mosher, Una O'Toole, Connor O'Reilly, Kyle Patterson, Maddie Pollack, Davis Rogers, Gabby Ruth, Andrew Sousa, Jackson Sylvester, Jake Tarricone, Hunter Tyrrell, Ryan Trismen, Alexander Wagner and Natalie Wagner.
