Local Scholars

The following local students were named to the fourth-quarter honor roll at Austin Preparatory School in Reading:

Brigid Donovan was one of two students awarded the Lowell General Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship this year. Donovan, the daughter of Erin Donovan, director of quality and risk at Lowell General Hospital, is a graduate of Andover High School and will attend Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., in the fall to study nursing. She has been a volunteer at Lowell General for the past four summers.


Bridget Collins, who will be a junior at Andover High School in the fall, attended the Massachusetts site of the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar. She joined more than 220 young leaders representing 167 high schools in the state at the three-day program at Bentley University in Waltham in June.

The seminar brings together a select group of high school sophomores from public and private schools to interact with leaders and learn how to develop and use leadership skills to make a positive contribution to society. The young leaders were also challenged to perform at least 100 hours of community service in the coming year.

Collins is the daughter of Michael and Jennifer Collins.


Alexander Claman and John Miller, eighth grade, and Andrew Youngman, ninth grade, were part of the 2013 graduating class at Shore County Day School in Beverly.


Samuel Khalandovsky, a student at Phillips Academy in Andover, was awarded the National Merit Worcester Polytechnic Institute Scholarship. He will receive between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. Khalandovsky is considering a career in mechanical engineering.
