Sean O’Connor’s science class at West Middle School was studying a weather unit last fall when the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall struck the Philippine Island.
The devastation created by Super-Typhoon Haiyan moved the students to help. They launched the Philippines Project to aid the victims,
The students organized two fundraisers, including a hat day where students could donate money for the privilege of wearing a hat to school in a show of support for the cause.
They also sold bracelets with Philippines Project written on them to fellow students.
The class earned $531.50, which it recently donated to Oxfam America, a national arm of the 17-organization international confederation striving for a future free from injustice and poverty.
