South Co-op Theater bringing 'Pinocchio Jr.' to life

After weeks of rehearsals, South Cooperative Theater opens the curtain this weekend on its spring musical, “My Son Pinocchio Jr.”

The family-friendly musical, which will be performed at West Middle School, is a magical mix of heartwarming fairy tale and action-packed adventure that’s appropriate for all audiences, its producers say.

In this classic tale of an aging toy maker and his awkward, wooden puppet, audiences will follow Pinocchio’s journey to a real, live boy and be charmed by Geppetto’s transformation from demanding creator to a real, live father. Along the way, the Blue Fairy, Stromboli and a lively cast of characters join in as Geppetto journeys beyond the Toy Shop to discover what makes the “perfect child.”

Leading the cast of third-, fourth- and fifth-graders are Beth Kennedy as artistic director, Crystal O’Keefe as choreographer, Charles Gracy and Amanda Spinale as drama directors and Amanda Potts as music director.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at West Middle, 70 Shawsheen Road.

Tickets are $10 and are on sale at Learning Express on Park Street in downtown Andover as well as at the door. For more information, call 978-623-8830, ext. 1260.
