---- — The Andover High School Drama Guild is headed to the state finals next week with its production of the drama “Radium Girls.”
The guild earned top awards in the semifinal round of the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild High School Drama Festival competition held this past Sunday in Duxbury.
Cast members Evan Pantely, Lauren Wanthal, Carter Letsky and Emily Wivell were all recognized for their moving portrayals.
The production also enjoyed a veritable sweep of the technical design awards. Sasha Schwartz won for Excellence in Set Design, Erica Shaw for Excellence in Lighting Design, and Daniel O’Leary and Sabrina DelMonaco for Excellence in Projections. In addition, Technical Excellence Awards for stage management and crew went to Gisele Aoun, Matthew Boulanger, Emily Lin, Anna Quartararo and Tia Lommel.
The Massachusetts High School Drama Festival is the METG’s premier event. The festival starts out with 115 one-act plays produced by member high schools that get whittled down to 14 during the preliminary and semifinal rounds.
The stage is now set for the state finals on Thursday, March 27, when two schools will be chosen to represent Massachusetts in the New England Drama Festival, the regional showcase of secondary school theater. An All-Star Company will also be named at the states, which will be held in John Hancock Hall in the Back Bay Events Center in Boston. The competition starts at 7 p.m.
