Two local students were recently awarded degree from Binghamton University in New York.

Sarah Elizabeth Hempstead earned a Master of Science degree in biomedical anthropology from the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences.

Jordan L. Greenberg earned a Bachelor of Science degree in management leadership from the School of Management.

Andover High School graduate Samuel F. Pratt is one of 12 students at St. Lawrence University in New York participating in the Adirondack Semester program this fall. Following the model of studying abroad in another culture, the Adirondack Semester offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves full-time in the natural world. The program includes extended wilderness experiences as well as courses that examine natural history, ecology, cultural history and ethics. It is based in a remote camp in the Adirondacks, without cars, television and most electronic devices.

Three Andover students were among Salem State scholarship recipients recognized during a recent reception at Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers.

Michael Benjamin received the Antone Aquino Music Scholarship awarded to a student majoring or minoring in music who demonstrates outstanding academic excellence in music.

Casey Colbert received the Delphine M. and James B. Sullivan Ph.D. Scholarship awarded to a student majoring in science (biology or chemistry) and enrolled in the Honors Program. Colbert also received the Dorothea Lyons Scholarship given to a student with financial need.

Kimberly Whitworth received the Edna M. McGlynn Scholarship awarded to a matriculated graduate student with a major in history.

Stella Bracke was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

Anne Arnzen was among 31 seniors to be named a President's Fellow at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., for the 2013-2014 academic school year. She received the honor after compiling an exemplary academic record in anthropology after three years at the college.
