A local teenager at Austin Preparatory School in Reading earned state recognition during the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s High School Drama Festival recently.
Sophomore Emily Cross of Andover received the Best Actor Award in the preliminary round of the cmpetition for her portrayal of the character Marge in the school’s presentation of “The Laramie Project.”
The cast and crew from Austin Prep received a total of 14 awards, earning seven in the preliminary round, and an additional seven awards at the semifinal level.
This is the first time in the school’s history the team earned a spot in the semifinals.
In addition to numerous individual awards, the Austin Prep team also received the Semifinal Participation Award, Student Recognition Award for the “honest and sincere telling of a compassionate story through vocal variety enhanced by visuals and music,” a Preliminary Winner Award and the Ensemble Award for the “best play with emotional depth.”
