Jack Lu represents Andover at state service day

Wood Hill Middle School eighth-grader Jack Lu represented Andover at a statewide service project called Project 351.

Gov. Deval Patrick and Lt. Gov. Tim Murray joinedn hundreds of eighth grade "ambassadors" from across the Commonwealth on Saturday, Jan. 14, for Project 351, "a day of service and a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr."

The ambassadors, chosen from the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts, began the day with a Town Hall Meeting at the Statehouse, hosted by the governor.

Jack and the other 350 ambassadors spent the day volunteering at four locations, which were also visited by Patrick and Murray.

St. John's Prep students recognized

The following students from Andover were inducted into the St. John's Chapter of the Chinese, French, German, Latin and Spanish national honor societies:

Jonathan Costello, Spanish;

Christopher Hartnett, Chinese;

hawk High School highest honors students

Sparhawk High School has announced its Highest Honors students, "students who have demonstrated mastery by earning a semesterly overall grade average of no less than a 3.5." Sparhawk High School is a private school located at 196 Main St. in Amesbury.

Grade 10: Raine Ericson

Grade 11: Devin Bebout, Steve Branan, Alex Cooper, Mia Formichella and Rachel Perry

Academic honors at St. John's Prep

St. John's Prep has announced its academic honors for first quarter of 2011-12 school year. Andover students who qualified are listed below.

Headmaster's list: Matthew Broderick, Devin Burke, Andrew Cadigan, John Chahraban and Michael DeLuca.

Principal's list: Rory Burke, Greggory Kobelski, Cory Lang, John McKeon and Sean Nork.

Honor roll: Alexander Cain, Matthew Eckstein, Taylor Brock-Fisher, Phillip Igoe, Conrad Kuin, Alex Munick, Eric O'Connor, Marcus Pelletier, Zachary Sargent, Anastaios Wallingford and Solomon White.

Students who qualified for the headmaster's list earned grades of A- or above in all courses; students who qualified for the principal's list earned grades of B+ or above in all courses; and students who qualified for the honor roll earned grades of B or above in all courses.

Brookwood School high honor roll

Brookwood School eighth grader Hannah Cregg of Andover was named to the high honor roll for the fall semester.

The high honor roll recognizes students with a 90 average and no grade below 85.

Phillips Exeter Academy fall 2011 honor roll

The following students were named to the Phillips Exeter Academy honor roll for the fall 2011 semester:

Anna Barr, grade 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Barr, high honors; Angela Lei, grade 11, daughter of Yang Lei and Binbin Zhu, highest honors; and Azniv Nalbandian, grade 9, daughter of Pars Nalbandian and Rosette Jacobson, high honors.

AHS students to perform in 2012 Mass All-State Music Festival

Three Andover High School students have been selected to perform in the 2012 Massachusetts All-State Music Festival, a three-day festival held in early March culminating in a performance at Boston's Symphony Hall on March 3.

Senior Rebecca Long will make her second trip to All-State as a violist in the orchestra.

Junior Clara Kim will make her third trip to All-State, this time as the second chair flutist in the band.

Freshman Nicholas Renton will make his first trip as a tenor in the chorus.
