The Andover Townsman
---- — The Andover High School Drama Guild’s November production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” is vying for seven awards in the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild and Broadway in Boston’s annual Musical Theatre Awards Program.
The show directed by Susan Choquette, who leads the theater program at Andover High, scored seven nominations, including for Best Overall Production.
Peter Reilly and Emily Wivell secured Best Actor and Actress nominations and Sasha Schwartz was singled out for Best Set Design. Nominations for Best Dance Ensemble, Best Choral Ensemble and Best Acting Ensemble rounded out the accolades.
The winners will be announced on Monday, June 9, at an awards ceremony at the Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston.
The MET Musical Awards is an educational program sponsored by Broadway in Boston and run by the guild as a way of recognizing outstanding performance and production values as displayed by Massachusetts high and middle schools during the course of the theater season.
Schools that choose to participate in the awards submit their shows for consideration to a panel of experienced theater adjudicators who evaluate and score them in a number of performance and design categories. Educational comments designed to improve the theater programs are also provided. Top scores at the end of the season earn nominations, with the winners announced at the annual ceremony.
