A walk to school -- with side benefits

More than 400 West Elementary School students and parents, plus 19 dogs, took to the sidewalks of Andover Wednesday, May 8, to start their morning with a walk to school. The outing was part of West Elementary’s annual celebration of National Walk to School Day.

Each year, the walk is tied to a charity and Principal Liz Roos chose the Cradles to Crayons organization as this year’s cause. About 30 students from the Andover High School chapter of Cradles to Crayons joined the elementary school students on the walk, which stepped off from both West Parish Church and Andover Country Club.

The high-schoolers will be sorting the school supplies and clothing generously donated by West Elementary families for Cradles to Crayon and delivering them to various agencies this week.
