The Department of Public Works is seeking artwork for its 2014 Eco-Friendly Andover Calendar and is inviting local students to submit their designs.
The contest is open to school-age children from kindergarten through grade 12. Entrants must either live in Andover or attend public school in town. There is no fee to enter.
The published calendar will be comprised of four functions of public works: single-stream recycling, water conservation, composting and environmental protection. Each function will be highlighted for three months in the calendar.
Posters should be colorful, completely hand-drawn or painted on an 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet of paper and drawn in a landscape/horizontal orientation. One winner will be chosen per grade level for each of the four functions. Entries may be submitted individually or as a group.
The deadline for submissions is Oct. 17. Winners will be notified by Nov. 15. Winners will receive a 35-gallon recycling toter from the DPW.
The published calendars will be available for sale, with proceeds to be used toward eco-friendly collaborative projects between the Department of Public Works and the Andover Public Schools District. The winning posters will also be displayed around town and on Facebook.
