STEAM Studio information sessions

The team behind the proposed STEAM Studio charter high school in town has scheduled two community briefing sessions to highlight its plan.

The sessions will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, and Monday, Sept. 23. Both sessions start at 7 p.m. on the third floor of Memorial Hall Library on North Main Street.

STEAM Studio is seeking approval from the state Board of Education as one of the commonwealth’s next charter schools. According to the proposal, the school for creativity and innovation would be focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, otherwise known as a STEM school. But it would also incorporate art and design, which accounts for the “A” in the acronym. It would start next fall with 100 students in grade nine and then increase in size over a four-year period to encompass all four grades, with a maximum enrollment of 450 students.
