School Lunch menus
Here's what is for lunch in the Andover public schools, Nov. 2-6:
Elementary schools
Monday: Egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, pancakes and syrup, turkey bacon, fruit cup and orange juice.
Tuesday: No School - In Service Day
Wednesday: Baked ziti with mozzarella cheese, turkey salad pocket and pretzels, manager's choice, veggie sticks and dip, cinnamon applesauce and chilled juice.
Thursday: Meatball sub, jumbo cinnamon pretzel and string cheese, grilled chicken on a bulky roll, italian macaroni salad, mini corn on the cob and apricot cake.
Friday: School house pizza, pepperoni or cheese, manager's sandwich choice, bagel and yogurt or string cheese, side salad, fresh fruit or chilled juice.
Middle schools
Monday: Teriyaki chicken dippers, dinner roll, grilled hotdog on a roll, bagel and yogurt, baked fries, seasoned veggies and chilled fruit.
Tuesday: No School - In Service Day
Wednesday: Baked ziti with cheese, garlic bread, italian sub and pretzels, jumbo pretzel and cheese stick, garden salad, fruit jello and chilled juice.
Thursday: Pizza, cheese or pepperoni, bagel and yogurt, rib-a-q on a roll, orzo salad, fresh melon and juice.
Friday: Oven BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes, manager's choice, macaroni and cheese, steamed broccoli with fresh herbs, dinner roll, fresh fruit cup and chilled juice.
Andover High School
Monday: Chicken scampi, seasoned veggies, dinner roll and fresh fruit.
Tuesday: No School - In Service Day
Wednesday: Spaghetti and meatballs or marinara sauce, side salad, garlic bread and fruit cup.
Thursday: Mashed potato bowl with chicken, gravy and corn, cranberry sauce and fresh fruit.
Friday: Cheeseburger sliders with all the fixings, oven fries, corn and gingerbread.
Also available a la carte daily at the elementary and middle schools: bottled water and 100-percent juice, low-fat ice cream and yogurt, bagel with light cream cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit of the season and milk.
At Andover High School there is a wrap/deli bar with sandwiches made to order with favorite toppings, plus a daily sandwich offering, daily specials, and panini specials.

Seifert column: Character and competence
About 30 years ago, I had a most interesting conversation with a gentleman from France. He was an executive for one of the computer companies in our area. We were very open with each other and could speak our minds. At one point, in our lively discussion of many topics, he shared a comment that has been etched in my mind since that day.
