`Force Five' robotics team powers on to states

Team “Force Five” from Andover came up big in the First Lego League Robotics competition qualifier on Saturday, Dec. 7, in Shrewsbury, advancing to the Massachusetts State FLL Robotics Championship to be held Dec. 21 in Worcester.

In addition to moving on to the states, the team won an award for Gracious Professionalism, a key aspect of the FLL competition.

The team consists of eighth-graders attending West Middle, Doherty and Pike schools in Andover and Austin Prep in Reading.

For the competition, the team designed and built a robot that was programmed to autonomously execute multiple timed tasks. Additionally, the students researched, developed and presented a concept to use autonomous drones to perform storm damage assessment as part of an integrated emergency response system.
