Culture bash: UN Day celebration at Montessori
Students dressed in costumes of their culture, or a culture of their choice, last Friday, Oct. 24, as the Andover School of Montessori held its annual United Nations Day celebration.
Parents and guests listened to the students perform and play songs from around the world in many languages. This year, ASM commissioned parent and artist Lisa Crowley to create a peace pole, which was dedicated to the school, according to Yvonne Howard, director of admission.
"There are more that 200,000 peace poles all over the world, dedicated as monuments to peace connecting every continent," Crowley said.
"They serve as constant reminders for us to live and play in peace. The message of peace is inscribed in English, Spanish, Hindi, Chinese, Sanskrit and German. This reflects our cultural diversity and symbolizes our need to communicate with others to resolve differences peacefully."
