School Lunch menus
Here's what is for lunch in the Andover public schools, June 15-19:
Elementary schools
Monday: Soft or hard shell tacos with all the toppings, ham-and-cheese or turkey wrap, bagel with mini yogurt or cheese stick, black bean salad, spanish rice and chilled fruit.
Tuesday: Grilled hotdog, cheddar burger on a roll, crispy chicken salad and pita bread, BBQ beans, cole slaw and blueberry crumb cake.
Wednesday: Macaroni with meat or marinara sauce, garlic bread, tuna pocket, chips and pickle, bagel with mini yogurt or cheese stick, seasoned veggie, fresh fruit and juice.
Thursday: Chicken tenders, dips, french fries and dinner roll, ravioli with sauce, italian bread, manager's choice, caesar salad, cookie and juice.
Friday: Cheese or pepperoni pizza, manager's choice, chef salad, bread stick, veggies and dip, pizza pasta salad and fresh fruit.
Middle schools
Monday: Orange chicken served over steamed rice, ham and cheese sub with chips, manager's choice, steamed broccoli and cheese, chilled pineapple and fresh fruit.
Tuesday: Cheese or pepperoni pan pizza, mozzarella sticks and marinara sauce, manager's choice, garden salad, chilled fruit and juice.
Wednesday: Chicken parmesan, pasta and bread stick, fish sticks with lemon wedge, cole slaw and tartar sauce, taco salad, garden salad, fresh seasonal veggies and juice.
Thursday: Cheese or pepperoni pan pizza, mini chicken or beef slides, assorted breakfast entrees, roasted potatoes, caesar salad and juice.
Friday: Assorted subs, American chop suey, Italian bread, jumbo pretzel with yogurt or cheese stick, greek pasta salad with feta, fresh seasonal veggies and chilled fruit.
Andover High School
There will not be a printed menu for the remainder of the month, according to Gail Koutroubas, food services director.
Also available a la carte daily at the elementary and middle schools: bottled water and 100 percent juice; low-fat ice cream and yogurt; bagel with light cream cheese; yogurt; fresh fruit of the season; and milk. At Andover High School there is a wrap/deli bar with sandwiches made to order with favorite toppings, plus a daily sandwich offering, daily specials, and panini specials.

Seifert column: Character and competence
About 30 years ago, I had a most interesting conversation with a gentleman from France. He was an executive for one of the computer companies in our area. We were very open with each other and could speak our minds. At one point, in our lively discussion of many topics, he shared a comment that has been etched in my mind since that day.
