Snow White’s seven dwarfs ran last year alongside a sneaker-clad Harry Potter and this year’s race is sure to include vampires and perhaps a version of the best-selling Wimpy Kid.
This costumed road race features elementary school-aged kids dressed as characters from their favorite storybooks.
It’s a road race that emphasizes reading and Bancroft School organizers say that’s the point.
“It’s all about an education theme. That’s what we wanted,” Kate Consentino of Bancroft School’s parents council said.
The second `Book It’ to the Finish 5K trail run happens Saturday, May 5, stepping off at 8:30 a.m. Already, 95 runners have signed up to run, but last-minute runners, walkers and stroller-pushers are welcome. There’s also a 1K Family Fun Run on tap, too.
Race day will also feature a student book swap in which participants can drop and swap books. Extra books will be donated to the classrooms.
Due to the Bancroft construction, organizers changed the venue this year from the school property to a Phillips Academy cross-country trail course.
While online registration is now closed, information and printed registration forms are available online at bookittothefinish.com. Consentino said participants can sign up on Saturday without a problem.
