'Extreme makeover' could be yours: Local business to give away prize

Tired of doing your hair and makeup the same old way? Can't find your stride in your workout regimen?

Several Andover businesses are teaming up to give away two "extreme makeovers" meant to have the winners looking and feeling better head to toe, inside and out.

One male and one female will receive a complete makeover, including three months of personal training and nutrition counseling, hair and beauty treatments, teeth whitening and new clothes.

Afterward, the makeover recipients will "feel on top of the world. They'll leave saying 'Wow, I've accomplished a lot'," said Jose Batistine, co-owner of Indra Salon. "It's exciting to be part of that change."

Indra Salon, Andover businesses Fitness Together, Dresscode and Kaps Menswear and Tewksbury dentist Nitish Nahata, have organized the extreme makeover give-away, which includes donated services valued at close to $10,000, they said.

"It's a great way to give back to the community. Andover has been very good to us," said Lisa Swanson, who co-owns Fitness Together with her husband, Steve. "And the collaboration with other businesses has been great."

Winners will be announced in late August, will undergo three months of transformation, and will be "unveiled" with their new looks at a party at Glory restaurant in December.

But the business owners organizing the give-away emphasize that the winner's new look will be just the beginning — they'll learn nutrition and beauty skills they can take with them long after the makeover is over.

"It's all about education," Swanson said. "This will help them be healthy, inside and out."

The winners will receive services valued at $4,268 from Fitness Together, including fitness evaluations every six weeks, personal training sessions four times a week, unlimited use of the facility's cardio equipment and one-on-one nutrition counseling meeting once per week, she said.

Indra Salon will teach them how to do their own makeup and hair, so they'll be able to replicate and keep up the style, and "wear their look with confidence," said April Graffeo, who co-owns Indra with Batistine.

Nahata, who will donate teeth whitening to the makeover recipients, noted that not only is a healthy smile beautiful, it effects your overall health and self-confidence.

"Good looking teeth and healthy gums are the actual foundation of health," Nahata said in a statement. "Our philosophy is to do everything possible to make you feel good about yourself because we believe that when you feel good, you create time in your life to become healthier."

Owners of the five businesses organizing the give-away will select both winners, based on a two-page application each entrant completes, submitting photos, personal details and a paragraph written on why they deserve a new look.

Folks can also send in an application to nominate a friend for a makeover.

Organizers agree that the makeover give-away has been an enjoyable way to gain exposure for their businesses, while giving back to the community.
