---- — The historical chapel at West Parish Garden Cemetery is in line for a new roof, with the work scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 19.
Many roof tiles are broken and the under layer also needs replacing, Lynn Capozzi, president of the West Parish Garden Cemetery Committee, said.
The cost to replace the 104-year-old chapel roof is $120,000. The new roof comes with an 80-year warranty.
“The chapel is a historic gem and our goal is to preserve it for generations to come,” Capozzi said. “We want it to be historically correct.”
The replacement project is expected to take several weeks, she said. Neighbors of the cemetery, located at 129 Reservation Road, received letters about the project last week.
The William W. Wood Foundation has donated $50,000 to the project. Capozzi said fundraising is planned for the remaining $70,000. Donations may be made to http://www.gofundme.com/3oy1l0.
