---- — The Andover/North Andover YMCA rung in the Year of the Horse on Saturday with its annual Chinese New Year Celebration.
The family-friendly event open to the community was well attended by young and old, who enjoyed a traditional Lion Dance and kung fu demonstrations led by Yang’s Martial Arts in Andover, a sampling of Chinese cuisine and more.
The afternoon also included Chinese calligraphy and crafts provided by the BBG Chinese Learning Center in Andover, performances by the Boston Chinese Musicians Association and storytelling with local artist Nicolette Nordin Heavey.
A Lantern Walk showcasing the YMCA’s upcoming expansion project capped off the festivities at sundown.
The $3 admission fee benefited the Merrimack Valley YMCA’s Annual Campaign, which supports the Y’s mission to have a meaningful impact in the community in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Annual Campaign ensures that the organization can continue to provide deserving youths and families in the area with opportunities to participate in its health and wellness, youth sports, aquatics and health education programs.
