Lions Club collects over 1 million pairsof eyeglasses

The North Andover Lions Club has collected over one million pairs of eyeglasses, thanks to donation boxes placed at several IRS locations including the Andover facility, and a recent IRS donation.

The North Andover Lions club provides a wide array of services to residents in the community, including eye examinations, eyeglasses, visual aid equipment, leader/guide dogs, youth scholarships and more for North Andover citizens.

By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, and raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward their mission of providing vision for all. “It costs Lions less than eight cents to provide a pair of recycled eyeglasses and change someone’s life,” according to the organization.

Throughout the year, the North Andover Lions collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers. LERC volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
