Wanted: Innovative students who can build a catapult that can throw an egg into a frying pan up to 60 feet away. Prize: a $15,000-per-year, maximum-of-four-years scholarship to study civil engineering at Merrimack College.
For the fourth consecutive year, high school juniors and seniors from across New England are encouraged to design and build a Trebuchet-style catapult for Merrimack College's Egg Catapult Competition.
Students will then bring their catapults to the Merrimack campus to be put to the test during ThinkFest on March 20, a festival-style event for grades 6-12 featuring design challenges and live science and technology demonstrations.
The winner of the scholarship to study civil engineering at Merrimack will be announced during ThinkFest.
Catapult Design registration deadline is Sunday, Feb. 14.
Participants must be enrolled in 11th or 12th grade, be qualified for acceptance to Merrimack College, and maintain a minimum 2.8 grade-point average while at Merrimack to retain the yearly scholarship.
