Art in the Park coming downtown on Saturday

One of Andover’s most well-known annual events is now on the same day as one of its biggest celebations.

The Andovers Artists Guild will be holding its annual Art in the Park on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Park, at the corner of Chestnut and Bartlet streets in Andover. The event is the same day as Andover Day, another event that attracts large crowds downtown.

In the event of inclement weather Art in the Park will be on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Andover’s Art in the Park is a large, non-profit cultural venture attracting 60 artists from all over New England. It includes exhibits and sales by individual artists as well as a competition judged by well known individuals in various fields.

According to its organizers the event’s purposes are to:

raise funds to help support the Andovers Artists Guild Scholarship Fund for high school seniors continuing their study of art;

provide a showcase for serious artists in the New England area; and

provide an opportunity for the public to consider fine art works in an informal atmosphere.
