Fire forces family out of Fosters Pond home

It will be some time before a family of four displaced by a basement fire on Fosters Pond Road Friday, Jan. 25, can return to their home.

Engine companies from Tewksbury and Lawrence were called to help battle an early-morning two-alarm basement fire that broke out at 4 Fosters Pond on Jan. 25. The residents were already out of the home when the first crews arrived.

The fire was deemed “electrical in nature,” Mansfield said. Damage is estimated to be around $100,000 and was confined largely to the basement.

Smoke damage occurred throughout the house, “which will remain uninhabitable for some time,” according to Fire Chief Michael B. Mansfield.

Town firefighters needed additional help in battling the fire because of the frigid temperatures. A firefighter was taken to Lawrence General Hospital for back injuries after slipping on ice outside the home, Mansfield said.

Units from Lawrence, Wilmington and North Andover provided station coverage during the fire. Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:30 a.m.
