Activities at the Center

The Center at Punchard (The Center), 30 Whittier Court, Andover, reopens next week after a temporary closure to allow the facility’s kitchen and renovation project to make some significant progress.

Here is what’s in store for the coming weeks:

:ASK THE LAWYER— PERSONALIZED LEGAL GUIDANCE: Tuesday, July 23, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monthly private legal clinic offers advice and referral only for 10-minute sessions. Free; registration required.

:AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM: Wednesday, July 24, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This workshop explores driving technologies, rules of the road and age-related challenges. $12 AARP members. $14 non-AARP members payable to AARP; plus $5 payable to the Town of Andover; lunch not included.

:HOME HEALTH FOUNDATION: PAST AND PRESENT: Friday, July 26, 9:30 a.m. Discussion of how Home Health VNA began 118 years ago out of Lawrence General Hospital to help local textile mill workers and what the agency has become today. Learn about each part of the foundation: the VNA, Hospice and Home Care operations.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME: LOWELL SPINNERS: Tuesday, July 30, leaves center at 5 p.m. Free, transportation included. Sponsored by the Andover firefighters; spaces are limited.

CLAMBAKE AT MAINE’S CHAUNCEY CREEK LOBSTER PIER: Wednesday, July 31, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; $66 cost includes clam bake, transportation and side trips to Nubble Light and York beaches.

ONE SURVIVOR’S STORY: Thursday, Aug. 8, 1:30 p.m. Jim Van Der Pol, a Holocaust survivor who from ages 15 to 20 was pursued by Nazi soldiers in Amsterdam during World War II, shares his story. After immigrating to the U.S., he enjoyed a successful career as an international businessman and now speaks on the role of a responsible citizen in a democracy. In his retirement, he also started a TV show called “Let’s Talk,” formed a jazz band and wrote his biography, “And the Money Went Over the Railing.” Admission $3.
